The fruit tasting activity was a great experience! Have a look at the photos and videos to see what the students thought of the four Indonesian fruits – mangga, pepaya, lengkeng, durian. Most students said ‘Saya suka makan mangga!’ But ‘Saya tidak suka makan durian!!’

Welcome back to the new school year! We have 3 Indonesian teachers this year, Ibu Jenny, Ibu Anne and Ibu Emily. We also have Ibu Ellis from Java to assist us in the teaching of Bahasa Indonesia. We hope to do some great activities with you all this year!

Palm Oil – helping to destroy forests and animals

Here’s something for everyone to think about during the holidays…

Recently Year Ones have been learning about why forests in Indonesia and other parts of the world are being chopped down at an alarming rate (300 footy fields per hour), which also means that unique animals like the Sumatran tiger, the orangutan and the Asian elephant (as well as others) are in danger of becoming extinct.

We are really concerned about this. When I told the Year Ones that Javanese and Balinese tigers are already extinct, one of them said ‘That’s really sad because it might have been my favourite animal’.

But you can help… scroll down to the new link to the right of this page – (under Blogroll) called ‘Palm Oil  – all the info you need’ and have a good look at the site. It will give you a shopping guide and also lots of suggestions about who you can write to about your concerns. Please bring in any packaging that you find at home that contains palm oil, so the whole school community can become aware of this issue.

Meet Lucu, our Sumatran tiger cub

Here’s a cute Sumatran tiger cub called Lucu. What does his name mean? If he looks hungry, click on ‘more’ to feed him. Lucu also likes to chase the mouse arrow – move it around for him. If you’re lucky, he will growl at it!
